Abstract
We developed a web-based application, COIAS (Come On! Impacting ASteroids), designed for the detection of Small Solar System Bodies (SSSBs) from HSC-SSP (Hyper Suprime-Cam, Subaru Strategic Program) images. The primary goal of COIAS is to elucidate the orbital and taxonomic distributions of SSSBs, many of which have remained undetected due to their small size and low albedo. In addition to advancing fundamental planetary science, COIAS contributes to planetary defense efforts by enabling the detection of near-Earth objects (NEOs). Furthermore, COIAS is expected to facilitate the discovery of active asteroids, comets, and a significant number of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs). A key feature of COIAS is its emphasis on citizen science, which is achieved through a highly user-friendly interface that encourages public participation. As of December 2025, COIAS has detected and reported over 260,000 new objects to the Minor Planet Center (MPC), with contributions from approximately 1,000 citizen scientists. Among these detections, 8,008 objects were assigned a provisional designation. Of particular significance, COIAS holds the world record for the highest number of TNO discoveries in 2024.
