The Asia Oceania Geosciences Society holds a General Election every two years to elect members who will lead the Society and represent its scientific Sections.
The election is conducted in accordance with the AOGS Constitution. Elected officers serve for one Meeting Year in the relevant elect or assistant role before beginning their two-Meeting-Year term.
Council term: 2028-2030
Candidate nominations for the 2027 General Election will be accepted from 7 September to 14 December 2026. Members are encouraged to consider suitably qualified colleagues who can contribute to the Society's scientific mission, governance and regional representation.

The General Election covers the following positions:
Under the AOGS Constitution, only Individual Members who are 21 years of age or above may vote or hold office in the Society.
A person who pays to attend an AOGS Annual Meeting or Conference and observes the Code of Conduct is automatically included as an Individual Member for three years. Membership ends if the member does not attend at least one AOGS Annual Meeting or Conference in three consecutive years, or in the circumstances stated in the Constitution.
Candidates must be willing to stand for election. When preparing the slate, consideration is given to the Society's diverse regional and disciplinary interests and to maintaining a reasonable balance of those interests over time.
Any current AOGS member may submit a nomination. Current membership is verified through the member's Membership ID in the personal profile in MARS.
Self-nomination is permitted. Each nominee may be considered for one office only in a General Election cycle.
The current AOGS Constitution does not prescribe a proposer or seconder for this process. Any future requirement will follow the Constitution then in force.
The Council may appoint a Nomination Committee for the election of Council members. The Committee:
The election is conducted by ballot. Candidate information and voting instructions will be published for each election cycle.
Space for write-in candidates is provided on the ballot. A ballot marked for candidates for Section President-Elect in more than one Section is null and void for the Section elections. If there is a tie, the Chair of the Nomination Committee has a casting vote.
Election results are announced in connection with the Annual General Meeting and published in the General Election archive.
