Program & Highlights

Program Overview
This provides a general summary of what will be taking place at the annual meeting. Check here for what you can expect at the annual meeting.

Official Opening on Mon-01 Aug from 3:30pm in Hall B (Level 4, CNCC)
This is a seat-down event and you are encouraged to arrive early. To kick start the ceremony, Yúshēng (余升) or "Prosperity Toss" will be served. This uniquely Singaporean festive dish symbolizes many things but most notably stands for abundance, prosperity and vigour. It is a way to express the goals and enduring spirit of AOGS members.

Presenter Guide - Oral
For contributed talks, total duration is 15 minutes including time for question & answer and speaker changeover.

Presenter Guide - Poster
Each presenter is provided with a 1m wide x 2.5 m high poster panel. The presentation must cover the same material as the abstract submitted. The poster should be 1 x A0 size in portrait format, measuring 1189 mm height x 841 mm wide maximum. Poster presentations will be held from Tuesday – 2 August 2016 to Friday – 5 August 2016 at the Exhibition Hall (Level 4, CNCC).

Axford & Distinguished Lectures
Hosted annually, these are honorary lectures by distinguished scientists who have produced work of outstanding quality in geosciences including planetary and solar system science. About half of these are Early Career Researcher Distinguished Lectures (ECR-DL).

The age limit of the ECR-DL is 35 years of age or no more than 7 years after successfully passing doctoral level degree. More about ECR-DL here: http://www.asiaoceania.org/society/public.asp?view=kamide_award

The "Axford Lectures" are named in honour of Sir/Professor Ian W. Axford. The plenary talks are held on the opening day of the society’s annual general meeting.

Section Meeting, Networking Lunch, Distinguished Lectures & Poster Presentations
AOGS has eight sections and each hosts its own Distinguished Lectures in the area that the section represents.

Each AOGS Section has its own elected President and section secretaries. This is where members gather to touch base on society and section issues. Section Business Meetings are usually held during meal breaks (lunch or dinner) and followed by the Distinguished Lectures.

The Section’s Poster Presentations (includes Student Poster Competition) are also held on the same day usually from 16:00 to 18:00.

Special Sessions
Annually, AOGS hosts special lectures by award winners and special sessions jointly organized with its partner societies and collaborators. The concept for the special session is that it should address a notable theme and assemble the leading practitioners to present on this topic.

In addition to a special lecture by the 2016 Axford Medallist, the conference has arranged two special sessions, two public lectures and a community forum involving scientists from the Planetary Sciences and Solar & Terrestrial Sciences sections.
