AOGS Fellows

The AOGS Fellows programme recognises sustained contributions to geoscience. Fellowship may also recognise a specific scientific breakthrough, innovation or leadership role. It is a career-level distinction intended principally for mid- and senior-career scientists.

Eligibility & Qualification
- The nominee must be an active AOGS member.
- The nominee must have attended at least three AOGS Annual Meetings during the preceding ten years.
- The nomination should demonstrate sustained career contributions, or a specific breakthrough, innovation or leadership role in geoscience.
Nomination Package
The complete package must be submitted through MARS and must include:
- The nomination form completed by the principal nominator.
- A curriculum vitae of approximately two pages covering degrees, employment, honours, memberships and service to the scientific community.
- The nominee's completed self-declaration form.
- A one-page statement from the nominee summarising the principal scientific impact of the nominee's work and contributions to AOGS activities.
- Two supporting reference letters, both from outside the nominee's home country or region.
Evaluation & Approval
- The relevant Section Committee undertakes the initial screening and ranking of nominations from its disciplinary area.
- The Awards Committee assesses the nominations against standardised criteria and makes recommendations.
- Council receives the recommendations at least three months before the next AOGS Annual General Meeting for consideration and approval.
Calls for nominations should be announced at least nine months before the next AOGS Annual General Meeting. If awarded, AOGS Fellowship is conferred at an Annual General Meeting.

History
The AOGS Fellows programme was established in 2021. Its policy and nomination requirements were revised in 2026. Superseded versions should be retained in the policy archive and should not appear as current requirements.
