Panelist
Cheng-Ku YU, Professor and Chair of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Taiwan University

Dr. Cheng-Ku Yu is a Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Taiwan University (NTU), where he also serves as Director of the Center for Atmospheric Resource and Disaster Studies. He received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from NTU in 1995. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Washington (1996–1999) and NTU (1999–2003), further deepening his expertise in mesoscale atmospheric processes. He began his academic career as an assistant professor at Chinese Culture University in 2003, and later returned to NTU, joining the Department of Atmospheric Sciences as a professor in 2014.

Dr. Yu is a leading expert in mesoscale meteorology, orographic precipitation, and the application and analysis of meteorological radar and remote sensing observations in atmospheric research. His research has made important contributions to advancing the understanding of topography-induced heavy rainfall, as well as precipitation and rainbands associated with tropical cyclones. In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Yu has been actively engaged in a wide range of professional services, including activities in academic publishing such as serving as an editor for Geoscience Letters since 2017 and regularly reviewing for prestigious journals in atmospheric science and related disciplines. In recognition of his scholarly achievements, Dr. Yu has received notable honors such as the Outstanding Research Award from the National Science and Technology Council of Taiwan and was recently elected a Fellow of the Meteorological Society of the Republic of China. His sustained commitment to atmospheric research, education, and service has helped advance the field both in Taiwan and internationally.
