Kamide Award Lecture

The Kamide Award Lecture is named in honour of Professor Yohsuke Kamide, one of the three principal founders of AOGS. It recognises outstanding early-career researchers, including postdoctoral researchers, selected by the eight AOGS Sections to present their work at the Annual Meeting.

Each Section may select up to two Kamide Award Lecturers each year. A Section Distinguished Lecturer may also be selected as part of the scientific programme; however, the Section Distinguished Lecture is not an award.

Eligibility

  1. The nominee must be 35 years of age or younger, or no more than seven years beyond the award of a doctoral degree.
  2. Appropriate allowance will be made for career disruptions arising from childbirth, caregiving or other significant life events. Nominators should consult the relevant Section Officers where such an adjustment may apply.
  3. Self-nomination is not allowed.
  4. The nominator must confirm the nominee's eligibility and willingness to be nominated.
  5. The nominee must have a MARS account, and the email address used in the nomination must match the primary email address in the nominee's MARS profile.

Selection & Approval

  1. Each AOGS Section is responsible for selecting its Kamide Award Lecturers.
  2. All selections are subject to ratification by AOGS Council.
  3. If a Section does not identify a suitable candidate for either of its two places, the unfilled place remains vacant for that year.
  4. Scientific excellence and the nominee's potential to contribute meaningfully to the Annual Meeting should guide selection.

Award Lecture & Benefits

  • Each Kamide Award Lecture is 30 minutes in duration.
  • Kamide Award Lecturers receive the same speaker benefits as Section Distinguished Lecturers. The applicable arrangements are communicated to selected lecturers for the relevant Annual Meeting.

Nomination

Nominations must be submitted through MARS during the announced nomination period. Nominee details are drawn from the nominee's MARS profile; nominees should ensure that all required particulars are complete and current.

History

The Early Career Researcher Distinguished Lecture was introduced in 2014. The Kamide Lecture Award was established in 2018 and implemented from 2019, replacing the earlier title and the former Y. Kamide Early Career Researcher Award arrangement. In 2024, Council approved the current structure of up to two Kamide Award Lectures and one Section Distinguished Lecture in each Section. Only the Kamide Award Lecture is an award.
