Korean geostationary satellite system consists of Geo-KOMPSAT 2A and 2B satellites (GK2A and GK2B). The GK2A satellite has the Advanced Meteorological Imager (AMI) which is like sensor equipped on Himawari-8/9 and GOES-16/17 satellites for meteorological mission. And the GK2B has the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager-2 (GOCI-2) and Geostationary Environmental Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) for ocean and environmental monitoring missions, respectively. GK2A satellite has been operated regularly from 25 July 2019. GK2A AMI has provided high spatio-temporal measurements through 16 channels and retrieved many kinds of products to observe the Earth’s weather, climate and environment conditions. KMA/NMSC is carrying out deep-dive validation and evaluation processes of the GK2A meteorological products to ensure their accuracies. GK2B satellite will be scheduled to launch in February 2020 and started to operate from end of this year after in-orbit test period. The both satellites can give the observational data and products to improve the retrieval algorithms and applications each other for their own purposes such as atmospheric aerosols, land and sea surface information, sensor calibration, and so on. The national agencies of GK2 satellites operation have cooperated to build the data availability and to study data fusion and blending. This presentation will give the status of applications of GK-2A AMI products and plans to extend their utilization by using together with GK2B satellite data.
