Session Title | Characterization and Countermeasure of Sedimentation in Reservoirs and Rivers |
Main Convener | Dr. Chih-Chung Chung (National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan) |
Co-convener(s) | Dr. Yung-Chia Hsu (National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan) Prof. Chih-Ping Lin (National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan) |
Session Description | As rainfall intensity increases in recently years due to climate change, soil sediment yield from slope erosions or landslides raises a serious problem of sedimentation in downstream reservoirs and rivers which endangers the operation life of reservoirs and imposes tremendous environmental impact. Characterization of sedimentation is enlisted the first priority for the decision making support on countermeasures in all the soil sediment yield processes involved. This session proposes to examine the issues of appropriate methods or surrogates to investigate the behavior of the sediment transport in fields. Practices based on the engineering measures, reservoir operation, and decision making that could potentially resolve sedimentation problems are encouraged to propose. These achievements can provide a new thinking in sustainable operation of reservoirs. |
