Session Description Clouds and their interaction with the rest of water and energy cycle components remain one of the largest uncertainties in future climate projections. Understanding the variability and roles of these components in both the regional and global scales is the key for reducing the uncertainties in models. It requires a coordinated analysis of the interactions between clouds, convection, circulation, aerosols and precipitation using both fine-resolution models and observations.
To foster collaborations in these diverse but related fields, we invite papers covering: 1) observations and large-eddy simulation, cloud-resolving and regional modeling of convection, clouds, precipitation, aerosols and radiation interactions; 2) development and evaluation of improved cloud and radiation parameterizations for models of all scales; 3) characterization of model biases related to these interactions in coupled GCMs from the CMIP5 and pre-CMIP6 climate modeling activities.
