AOGS2010 Program Highlights

Axford Lectures and General Assembly
Unlike previous years, AOGS2010 will have its General Assembly and the Axford Lectures on the 4th day (8th June) of the programme instead of the 1st day. The two Axford Lectures are scheduled to start at 2.30pm and 4pm, after which the General Assembly will begin at 5pm. This year, we are honoured to have Nobel Laureate winner Y.T Lee as a speaker in the Axford Lectures.

Axford Medal Award
We are pleased to announce Professor Atsuhiro Nishida as the first recipient of the Axford Medal of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS). Professor Nishida has proven himself to be a dedicated, innovative, and accomplished scientist countless times throughout the five decades he has been involved in space science, with outstanding scientific achievements in magnetospheric, ionospheric and interplanetary physics. Professor Nishida served as president of AOGS from 2006 to 2008 and was vice-president in 2005 - 2006 and 2008 - 2009, amongst the many other posts he has served in.

Ian Axford Commemorative Symposium
Sir Ian Axford, one of the primary founders of AOGS and a respected space scientist, passed away on 13th March 2010 at the age of 77. To honour his memory, a Commemorative Symposium will be held during the morning session on 8th July.

Section Distinguished Lectures
This year, there shall be 10 Section Distinguished Lectures that will be held within the span of 6th - 10th July. Please refer to www.asiaoceania.org for more information concerning timings and specific dates.

Public Lectures
There shall be 9 Public Lectures and the schedule will be announced in due course.

AOGS Geosciences World Community Exhibition

Geosciences World Community Exhibition (GEOMEET)
We welcome you to attend the AOGS 2010 Geosciences World Community Exhibition, where 21 well known organizations and top academic institutions from 7 countries will participate in from 5 to 8 July in Hall 3.

Visit their booths to find out more about the trends in geosciences research and the latest equipment and tools. A one-on-one online business matching portal, GEOMEET, is available to registered users. GEOMEET facilitates face-to-face networking to discuss collaborative research and educational programs between exhibitors and delegates attending the conference, as well as helps to bring about business opportunities.

Local Hospitality

Welcome Reception at Shilpararam (http://www.shilparamam.org/)
Sponsored by State of Andhra Pradesh, a welcome reception will be held on 5th July in the evening (Monday), 6.30 - 9pm. All participants of AOGS are more than welcome to attend - it shall be a chance for you to mingle and network. Buses depart HICC from 5.30pm and return by 9.30pm

Free "Get-To-Know" (GK) Tours
There will be two "Get-To-Know" tours where participants can get to visit the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) and the Indian National Centre for Information and Ocean Services (INCOIS) while getting the opportunity to mingle and get to know each other.

Tour 1 will be held on 6th July, going to NGRI while Tour 2 will be of INCOIS and will be held on 7th July. Buses depart from Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC): at 1.30pm and will return by 6.00pm. The tour is free of charge and the registration deadline is 30th June. Visa Processing

The National Advisory Committee has received all 4 approvals from the Government of India required for AOGS2010 in Hyderabad . For a copy of the letters, you may email your request to: info@asiaoceania.org. Please note that only PDF copies are able to be provided. Thank you.

1) Event clearance from MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs).
2) Political Clearance from MEA (Ministry of External Affairs).
3) Administrative approval from Nodal Agency, which is MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development).
4) Necessary Clearance from Andhra Pradesh State Government.

The approval letters are already sent to Indian Consulate offices in China, Israel, Japan , and few other countries, based on the requests previously received.
