Brief Description
The main aim of the session is to ask the questions:
What do we know about how the radiation belts are formed? What things do we need to know but don't from a viewpoint of physics understanding?
What things do we need to know but don't from a Space Weather requirements point of view? What new measurements are needed to fill these gaps in our understanding?""The session will therefore review our current understanding of radiation belt formation processes, and our present prediction capabilities. It will examine our understanding of what real problems the space weather environment causes and how to mittigate them. Then, armed with this information, specify the measurements which are needed to to complete our understanding, and the shape of a space weather service
which would use this knowledge to meet the actual needs of users.
