Description
Long-term
earthquake forecast and hazard assessments rely on past
recurrence of large and destructive earthquakes. Pre-instrumental
earthquakes can be studied from damage descriptions in historical
documents, earthquake features in archaeological sites or
paleoseismological methods such as trenching faults or tsunami
deposit studies. We will compare various methods in various
Asian countries and seek for international cooperation for
better understand the long-term earthquake potential in
the region.
