Brief
Description
Experimental data on in-situ stresses have been gathered
over a half-century by both instrumental measurements and
the analysis of natural stress indicators. For instance,
observations of stress orientations have been summarised
in the World Stress Map database for a large number of locations
over the globe. However, the stress state of the earth's
crust is still far from being fully characterised because
the stress magnitudes remain unknown in numerous locations.
Therefore, many efforts have recently been applied to determine
regional stresses by field testing and/or by mathematical
modelling. This session is aimed at the discussion of modern
approaches to collection and interpretation of data on stresses
in the earth crust
