Brief Description
This session is intended to review the recent progress in this research and to outline present and future challenges in two-fold manenr. Firstly, a set of invited key speakers will review theoretical background, experimental observations and applications of various aspects of paleo, rock and environmental magnetism. Secondly, oral talks and poster presentations are wellcome to report on present investigations and future challneges, with a focus on research carried ou in the Asia-Oceania Region. Preliminary list of invited speakers include: M. Torii (Japan), Magnetism of ocean floor basalts; F. Hrouda (Czech Republic), Magnetic anisotropy - theory and applications; A. Hirt (Switzerland), Iron-bearing minerals in soils and their environmental significance; M. Fuller (Hawaii, USA), Paleomagnetism - recent progress and problems.
