Brief Description
Troposheric ozone over Asia S.L. Jain Radio & Atmospheric Sciences Division National Physical Laboratory New Delhi- 110012 India The troposheric ozone is one of the important trace species of the atmosphere. The tropospheric ozone and its precursors gases are increasing in Asia with the rapid increase in industrial and other anthropogenic activities. Ozone is one of the potential greenhouse gases and is also health hazard to human, animal and plant life if its concentration exceeds beyond certain limit. Most of the developed countries have already defined the ambient air quality standard (AAQS) for surface ozone. However a large number of countries in Asia has not yet set the ambient air quality standard for ozone and also do not have enough regular monitoring stations. Therefore it is proposed to have a one day session on tropospheric ozone during AsiaOceania Geosciences meeting in Singapore next year. Theme of the proposed one day seminar will be the monitoring of surface ozone over Asia , its chemistry, dynamics, high ozone level episodes during day as well as night time and modeling efforts. A lso the strategies for enhancing the ozone monitoring stations and defining AAQS for surface ozone for developing countries in Asia will be discussed.
