David Laurence Higgitt (CV)
Professor of Physical Geography
National University of Singapore

I am Professor of Physical Geography at the National University of Singapore.  My university research career began in the United Kingdom (Lancaster, Durham) but I moved to Singapore in 2004, the same year that the first AOGS Meeting was convened.  I have participated in most AOGS meetings and have convened sessions in the HS section. My research is concerned with erosion and sediment delivery in fluvial systems and has included considerable field investigations in China and Southeast Asia. In 2007, I was elected to the role of AOGS Treasurer.  This year I am chairing the AOGS Outreach and Education Subcommittee.  In 2009 I was the co-chair of the Local Advisory Committee for the AOGS 6th Annual Meeting and will be actively involved in the preparations for the AOGS-AGU(WPGM) Joint Assembly Singapore in 2012. I believe that the next three to four years are a critical time for AOGS to consolidate its reputation on the world stage. Good progress has been made in developing links with other geosciences organizations but there is much work to do to ensure that these initiatives bring opportunities to geoscientists throughout Asia and Oceania.
